Sony dcr-trv520 ntsc, now records grainy video

We have had this camera for several years now. About amonth ago, it started recording uniformly grainy video. I have tried a couple different tapes. Previously recorded tapes that were not grainy before, playback great. Please help. What is the problem?

Sounds like you are shooting in a dark or shady area.... I have the same camera and found that having well lit video gets rid of the graininess.
