TRV11 Blue and yellow screen with blinking battery

This site seems to be my best bet for help.

I have a Sony DCR-TRV11 minidv camcorder. It just stopped working all of a sudden and I'm not sure why. When I turn it on I get a blue screen with a solid yellow box and a blinking icon that is a battery with a line through it. This happens even when it is plugged in to the wall. I know it is getting juice because the side panel shows that it is charging the battery and then indicates the attached battery is full. If I open it to put in a tape, that mechanism gets juice because the motor spits out the mechanism like it should.

Is there anything I can do? Do you think it got fried with a power surge or something? Any help would be appreciated since it cost me $1300 when I bought it and I'm not in the mood to spend a min of $300 to have it repaired or replaced.

Thanks.
