Does anyone have a driver for the DCR-HC26 for Vista? I read through the other threads, but didn't see any answer to this problem.
Thanks

Firewire works, but it is a bit tricky. You have to hook the camera up and start playing a video, then Vista will pop up a window asking what you want to do. It USUALLY works from there, but you may have to do it a few times.
Good Luck!! We all need it, because Sony is no help!

Still having trouble with the DCR-HC26 install on Vista. I havent purchased a firewire cbale yet. Has anyone successfully installed the drivers for the DCR-HC26 with Vista x64.
I have my original CD and the OS will not allow me to run the software because its not compatible. Tried the fixes from the DCR-HC36 link below as well. I may have missed an important detail.
Please assist and advise...thanks in advance.

Not having any luck. I have a DCR-HC26, Windows Vista, the original Picture Package cd, but no firewire.
I went to Sony's esupport and tried to download "Picture Motion Browser Version 2.0.13". Ironically it wouldn't take my number off my disk but the "266675501" number floating around worked. I ran the setup but it asks me to insert my Picture Package cd, which shouldn't be any problem, but it refuses to recognize it and won't continue. Fail.
I tried downloading the driver from the Asia site but when I run the setup I'm informed that "USB Driver cannot be installed in the current version of Windows." Fail.
I bought a StarTech IEEE-1394 Firewire card, but wouldn't you know it -- my dell computer has a non-standard case and won't close with the firewire card installed. Fail.
Officially USB with this camcorder isn't supported (http://esupport.sony.com/US/perl/news-item.pl?news_id=128)

I tried what I thought was everything, including firewire.
I brought my camera to Best Buy and spoke to the Geek Squad.
They were aware of the problem, and said that the only
thing that might work as Dazzle DVC 100.
it cost $50, but it also works on a much older Sony camcorder
I've had for years where the only output is a mini jack
on the side of the camera that says Out-TV.
I still have the TV cable that came with the camera
and made movies from the old camera tapes I had
forgotten about.
Youre right about Sony being NO HELP..
