editing files from DCR-DVD92

What 3rd party software will recognize the .vbo (not .vob) files that are on the disks? untill we find a working driver for the camera, I would like to be able to take the video off of the disks and put them on my laptop.

Eric :
If you're using VR mode in the cam..use TMPGEnc DVD Author to convert the .VRO file to .VOB and u're all set .. edit or backup or do whatever..no need for a PC link anyway.

I tired the method in the "loading VOB in MPEG video editing application" method but once i tried playing the clip it was only 4 sec as opposed to the 30min on my cam.

uh..guys ever heard of google.com? use Pinnacle 10 to edit your videos .. and if you want to convert .VRO to .VOB use TMPGEnc DVD Author.

Hey Jacob, hmmm, don't you have to transfer your video from the DVD92 to PC before editing as you suggested? Correct me if I am wrong but I thought 'how to tranfer from the DVD92' is the whole reason for this thread.

To John:

Sure you have to transfer. insert your miniDVD which contains the video..Copy the files to your HD and edit.

And if you have a DVD writer, write your edited videos on a normal DVD or a miniDVD using Nero or TMPGEnc DVD author or any backup software.

But if there was a USB connection with the DVD92, you will not need a DVD writer in your pc since the DVD92 has one.

So not having a USB port in the camera is not the end of the world .. you just need to do some extra work.

I had the same problem. And I've solved it. If you have DVD92, you should set your video to video mode, not VR Mode, in order for the video to playback or be copied in any type of dvd player or computers. Some doesnt have a DVD Port, like mine. But you can transfer the video from the dvd to your computer if the file is video_ts, not vr_mangr.

Firstly you need the use the DVD92 software to Finalize the dvd so it can play in DVD-players or be imported into iMovie.

!!!!!!!!!Remember mini-dvd CAN NOT fit in slot loading drives!!!!!!!!

this camera is frigging retarded. the picture is crappy; it's too bright to do anything when you're facing the sun, no free movie editing software supports the mini dvd movie formats {.vob and .bmp), the finalizing function is too permanent for it's own good, and everything is just incredibly slow, difficult to use, and crappy. i'm trying to make a documentary for a school project and it's taking forever. my friend's DIGITAL CAMERAS with recording functions are WAY better than this model.

after reading all these posts, i decided it best to go to the source - SONY. And here are the answers (i think) to all the questions: to copy the dvd to your computer, put disk in the dvd drive. Open My Computer. Right Click and Open the dvd drive. Right click VIDEO_TS and Copy. Then move cursor to desktop, Right Click and Paste. It may take a few minutes depending on your computer. Once it is on your computer, rename the file, as you will likely be adding more and don't want to overwrite existing files. To edit, Sony makes an editor called Vegas Movie Studio. On Sony's website (in Video Editing), you can find numerous versions, from full on Pro for $899, to the basic consumer friendly software for under $100.
Hopefully this puts all your frustrations to rest. It has mine.
And not to detract from these discussion groups, but i've found it faster and easier to go straight to the source. Sony, of which i'm not a big fan, has an excellent support site with online chat and they will guide you step by step through the process. The address for the dvd92 is Sony eSupport - DCR-DVD92. Good luck, and happy film making.

I heard that Pinnacle 10.5 edic. is the best to decode and edit vob files (the ones that DVD92 produces). Does anyone have used this software?

HI EVERYONE, I AM NOT SURE IF YOU GUYS STILL HAVE PROBLEMS CONNECTING YOUR SONY DCR-DVD92E TO THE COMPUTER. BUT HERE IS THE SOLUTION: YOU DO NOT NEED TO USE THE USB PORT. IF YOU WANT TO READ YOUR DVD DISC ON ANY DEVICE (EX,YOUR COMPUTER) THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO. WHEN YOU OPEN YOUR HANDYCAM, YOU CLICK ON SET UP, UNDER THIS YOU WILL FIND FINALIZE. CLICK ON IT, AND BE AWARE NOT TO SHAKE OR MOVE YOUR CAMERA WHILE FINALIZING. WHEN IT IS FINISHED CLICK OK. NOW YOU CAN TAKE YOUR DVD OUT FROM THE CAMERA, AND THE LAST THING YOU WILL HAVE TO DO TO PUT IT IN A DVD PLAYER, COMPUTER OR ANY DEVICE. I AM SURE YOU ALL WILL BE HAPPY WITH THE PROGRESS.
HOPE I COULD HAVE HELPED SOME OF YOU.
ANDY
