I have the handycam dvd 403 camera. What a great unit...it is the best picture I've seen on any handycam. That's the good news.
The bad news is that there is no mic input. Sony, why are you so stupid..you can't even sell the mic's you make to people who have the 403.
Here's a solution, though. Make a device that fits in the shoe that has a built in mic jack. Wow! rocket science.

My DCRTRV18 finally died. I'm pissed that many of the upgrades (mine is a DCR - HC42) does not have a MIC input! I agree with your "Sony thoughts" however, is anyone you may be aware of in the aftermarket making a shoe (AIS) with a mini-pin input - specifically for the WCS-999 wireless mics?

I would pay $100AUD for one of these miniplugs.. so that i could plug in hand held microphones.. Considering.. with my HC42E i have to buy a bluetooth microphone which costs $350AUD its the only one that would suit it.
Anyone want to sell one, contact me.

Title: Adding a 2.5mm jack to the Sony Gun Zoom Microphone ECM-HGZ1
Weblog: Camera Hacker
Excerpt: Hi, Ive recently been looking at modifing a Sony ECM-HGZ1 so as to connect a Audio Technica Wireless mic via the AIS to record on my Sony DV90. After closer inspection and a local trip to Radio Shack, I found a perfect location for a 2.5mm jack to be mounted inside the Microphone, inside the shoe . . .
