sony Thumbwheel won't select menu choices

my sony dcr-100 thumbwheel will no longer select the internal menu list. I am able to scroll the list, but it won't select a menu item when pressed in. Any thoughts?

SD, sound like the switch is broken due to wear, or perhaps there is an loose connection to the switch. Are you adept to fixing these kind of things yourself? If so, you might consider getting an inexpensive, broken DCR-100 off eBay and swap the switch yourself.

I ended up taking it in for service and spending about $250 to get it fixed.

There was a flat ribbon cable that runs from this thumbwheel to the on/off switch. This cable had an intermittant open. I could get the thumbwheel selector to work if I opened up the dv tape transport and "wiggle" the ribbon cable (cable had become cut by the opening and closing of the transport over the 6 years I had the camera). Anyway the whole assembly was one unit, and was a common repair item per the tech.

Camera is back to working 100% and I feel was worth the repair charge vs getting a replacement unit.
