Video on the Web

While reading about the video capability of HTML5, I discovered the "Dive Into HTML" ebook. This book is a very interesting read for web site designers. But what's most impressive is its "Video on the Web" section.

This section is a must read for all cinematographer and videographers. It talks about video containers and codecs. Then it shows what web browser shows what containers/codecs. It also shows you how to convert your video from one format to another with practical examples.

For me, the most interesting topic was the discussion on H.264, a very popular format for TV and mobile devices. It's in-depth discussion on H.264 licensing is quite enlightening. Before picking this format for your video projects, be sure to read this section and make your final decision.

In case you want the retail printed copy of this book, O'Reilly is distributing this book under a different name, called "HTML5: Up & Running". See "Related Links" below.
