Help with Iconcepts model 49152-DM

I bought the iConcepts web cam, Model# 49152-DM as part of a package called "WebCam For Dummies".

Well, I must be a dummy. In the instruction manual, it tells me to hit the toggle switch on the camera to turn it on. I have looked, and there is no toggle switch. Can anyone tell me how to turn this darned thing on?? Thanks :)

I bought the same webcam with the same instruction manual. It seems that they package different webcam models with the same basic set of instructions.

There is no toggle switch on this webcam. It will come on when you run the 'Webcam express' application and be sure to set your capture device to 'Soc PC Camera" in 'Options' (Icon in the Upper right hand corner) once the application is loaded.

The software is very easy to use, however I am finding that it doesn't work with Windows Vista.

Hope this helps.

I'm still a dummy, because I don't see any "options" ICON when I open Webcam Express. As such, I can't set the capture device to SOC PC Camera. This thing may work, but it is far from intuitive. Junk.

I have the same problem. The red light is on and it's recording but there is no picture?? Help I also don't have the toggle switch and no icon. I can see the software is easy to use. But it's not recording a picture. Almost seems like a lense cover is on. When I pluged it in my usb didn't recognize it. When I go into my computer it's not under any of the removable disks. I tried different ubs ports and it's not recognizing it.

Okay, I reseached all the information on this Web Cam for Dummies. Ironic but the Wiley company only wrote the instruction manual but does NOT support the product. The product is supported by a New Jersey based company "SAKAR" There toll free number is 877-397-8200 or 732-248-1306. The address is 195 Carter Drive, Edison, NJ 08817. As far as the product, I have tried everything to install the camera with no luck. I waited for Tech Support from SAKAR but no one answered after 2.5 hours and I am patient but not that patient. I hope someone has better luck then me. Just wanted to share the information with you. Oh and as far as iConcepts, they didn't recognize their own model number. This is the wildest ten bucks I ever spent.

Same deal here. USB didn't recognize the camera, though the red led light was on. No icon on Web Cam Express, no friggin' toggle switch, etc.... What a sham! I'm going to try to call SAKAR on monday, but from the looks of it, it seems we've all been ripped off!

GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR. I've been trying to figure out this stupid camera for the last 3 hours. there is NO TOGGLE SWITCH! and I called the 1877 # but after waiting almost an hour I got another call and decided to hang up. I take it none of you have had any luck with this cam? I may just return it and get another one. I can't take this stress.

I bought two and had same issues as everyone else. One Windows XP and the other is Vista Premium. Guess that makes me twice the dummy. I am going to take this back to Walmart and give them a copy of this blog. The ass that said "well its only $20 bucks" does not realize that it is being sold by the hundreds of thousands by Walmart and others. If everyone just lets it go Sakar will have a monumental scam with no penalty. TAKE THEM BACK........TAKE THEM ALL BACK. P.S. I train software!!

Wow web cam for dummies Walmart should post a sign that says webcam for dumbass I also can not find no damn toggle button, I guess this co. is not worried about customer satisfaction so I say we all ban against ever buying any of their products again, maybe once they file chapter 11 they will get the hint that the customer satisfaction is top priority

I bought the same camera and am having the same problems. The camera does work great with MSN Messenger but totally freezes Yahoo Messenger. I also cannot capture anything using the WebExpress software. I have literally spent hours going through Yahoo help pages and emailing back and forth with Yahoo to no avail. I am going to try one last time with the link the last person listed, after that I'm taking it back. Does anyone have any ideas? Brian.

I received the web cam as a gift and like you I had problems with it working. After some thought I un-installed and then re-installed. On the 2nd try things worked out to perfection.

Seems on the 1st try the CD didn't work correctly but with the 2nd try everything that was suppose to be there showed up just fine. Oh, and no, I do not have a toggle switch on mine and it doesn't have a six foot cord. Apparently the instruction book was for a different much better web cam.

I'm an old lady, with few computer skills, but if I can make it work, you can too.Don't give up, give it a 2nd try.

I bought mine on clearance for $12. So far everything works good. I guess maybe only 10 out of every hundred work. It a nice little camera overall. For $12 what do you expect? It doesn't say on the package it will work...it says for dummies and you know what all of us that bought must be pretty dumb to fall for it.

I plugged in the USB and the red light is on. I installed the software, yet the computer doesnt recognize it. Its not working. Its not recognized by any of the instant messangers and I am beginning to get frustrated. I have been trying things for almost an hour now and nothing has changed. Why is it not being recognized?? I guess it was a defective from the beginning. What a bummer! Anyone have any suggestions. The rest of the comments on here don't seem promising.

What is wrong with you people? The toggle switch it talks about is in the PROGRAM..."Webcam Express" on the lower left of your screen.....BTW I installed this cam and had it operational in under two minutes on a Windows XP AND a Windows Vista machine....

Wed, 11 Apr 2007 17:00:50 -0700

I got mine to work on the 1st try with windows xp. Yeah, there's no off and on switch on the camera itself. My camera automatically comes on when I start the webcam express program and the red light on top show it's on.
The only real problem I have with it is that the usb cord/cable is extremely short.
The book says the cable is 6ft long, but mine is right at 3 ft. I can't put the camera anywhere.
Well... I didn't have great expectations considering I only paid $10 for it.
Maybe I can get some use out of the picture software.

I also bought web cams for dummies and it will not work on my computer. I have tried everything that you all have said to try and nothing works. So I guess I'm just out my $15. This will be the last time I buy something that cheap. I will check back here to see if anyone has came up with something else that I can try. If I find something that works I will post it.

Thanks

This Webcam should have never been put in stores. I have used other Webcams with no problem. I only got this camera because of the low price not because I thought it would be easy to use or install. When I plugged the camera in it was not detected even though the red light was on. There has to be a defect in most of these cameras. If someone that builds computers for a living has problems getting it to work them there is probably something wrong, or am I just a DUMMY. LOL

Worst $7 I ever spent. How about I make your new "for Dummies" book, it's called "Kiss My Ass for Dummies", it's short I warn you. One page is a picture of anyone at Sakar International's lips and my lilly white ass on the opposite page.

I was just upset I had to uninstall my previous webcam thinking I was getting something a little newer than 5 years old.

I'm sticking with the Ebay deal I got on my old webcam. Damn thing still works.

Kate
Fri, 10 Aug 2007 23:29:09 +0000

I purchased the same thing and installed it on a two week old Vesta system and it came right up.
Be sure to do the install before connecting to the USB.
It will install two programs.

There is no switch, it comes on immediately when the video program is started.

I scanned the manual I have and attached.

Hope this helps

I too bought this camera on clearance at Wally World...once I figured out there was no toggle, and that the software had to be installed at a precise moment in order for this thing to work..it worked fine! I moved, plugged it back in...now nothing!!!!! I have everything already previously downloaded...this is just CRAP! I am afraid to totally remove as I enjoy the other part of the program and it also holds all my pics that I don't feel like screwing around with!
YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR...LESSON LEARNED! PFFFFTTTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!

I had problems with my 49152-DM camera. I tracked it down to it having USB connector not meeting standard tolerances. By the way I have found this same situations with other types of so called standard plugs. It can be very hard to find when you do everything right and it still doesn't work.

Here goes followed by a solution.

I connected the Webcam to an old HP laptop and had no problems except that the computer was slow. I connected the Webcam to a newer Gateway laptop and couldn't get it to work no mater what I tried. I connected it to an old tower computer and I had no problems. I then connected the Webcam to the Gateway through a USB hub with its own power supply and lo and behold it worked. I tried removing the hub and tried two different extension cables and it did not work. I tried a hub that does not come with its own power supply and that also worked.

It looks like the solution is to simply put any USB hub between the Webcam and the computer and it will work hunky dorky.

Good Luck.

Hi, I just bought the iConcepts 49152-DM webcam and I can't install it on my computer. I followed the directions in the instruction manual and my computer couldn't recognize that the webcam was plugged in. Although the red light on the webcam lit up.

Then I tried the Troubleshooting directions and on step 5: it says that under device manager I will find a section labeled "Other Devices" and its supposed to contain a tab labaled "Digital Camera." My computer didn't have a "Digital Camera" listed. Instead, it had a tab labeled "CIF Single Chip" and it had an exclamation symbol over its icon. Is this why the webcam doesnt work? If, so is there anything I can do to fix it?

p.s. Yes, my computer meets the PC requirements

Brian
Sun, 02 Dec 2007 00:37:58 +0000

All you need to do is insert a HUB, doesn't matter what kind. Then, let the wizard recognize the HUB if need be, and install any necessary software. Then, plug the CIF camera device into one of the HUB ports, and install the PC Camer@ software. It should work every time from there on in.

i myself had no problem with this cam or software with windows xp. you just need to make sure that you have the latest version of directx installed and make sure you quit all your spyware, virus, firewall programs before installing this cams software. if you do this it will work great i bought 2 of them and they work perfect on both my computers.

This product sucks!!!! I initially had the 49152-DM and the camera did not register/was recognized by my computer. I sent it back to Sakar and it took TWO MONTHS for them to send me a new one (I live an hour from where their mail offices are). They sent me model# 49152 N which I guess is the new ones that are compatible with Windows Vista. This one has the same problem!!!! I follow all the directions to a tee and my camera is not recognized by my computer. I have Windows XP Ver. 2002 on my computer so there should be no problems. I called Saker tech support and they were no help. Their response is that there is something wrong with my PC or hardware. Can anybody help me? Garrett Glick ? Anyone???

Ok, i keep installing it the way it says too, but when i plug in my cam it says USB composite device or just USB device. then it comes up with a install new hardware wizard, so i exit out of that and it says there has been problems with the installation and the device may not work, and surprise IT DOESN'T.

We are working with an attorney in New Jersey who specializes in Class Action Lawsuits against these types of faulty IT devices. Apparantly this scam is not limited to the U.S. either. Sounds like our friends at "I-Concepts" have some explaining to do... along with their toadies at Saker. Will post additional info about the lawsuit as it progresses.

As many of you have said, i have the same problems. I brought this for 20$, and when i plug in the USB no "new hardwear found" pops up. I searched my computer and it dosn't appear under any of the drives ect. the red light is on as in many of your cases. Damn thing is faulty, and they probally didn't realize it untill it was too late, and lots of people put lots of money into buying them. they don't want to deal with refunding everyone and making a new product, so they keep saying it's our computers ect. instead.
