IBM PC Camera Disassembly

I just took mine down to this level wanted to post an update. On my cam the glass embedded filter on the cmos chip is NOT the IR filter. If you look at it and tilt it at an angle it lacks the red reflection that indicates IF filter properties. However, if you look into the focus/lense assembly at the objective lense you will notice this red hue!! To get at the true IF filter, you have to CAREFULLY loosen and remove a small black disk on/in the REAR of the lense assembly. On mine there were two drops of glue holding it in. Take care NOT to loose or break the small lense at the very rear near the plastic retaining ring as focusing the camera will be impossible without it. The IR filter is a small square piece up in the front of the focus knob. If you have removed the true ovjective lense from the rear you can use a mini screwdriver or even a pair of tweezers like I did to pop it out. Add a dab of glue to hold the remaining lense to retainer ring in the REAR of the focus assembly! I you simply push the objective lens up toward the front where the IR was you won't be able to focus as the IR filter also acted as a spacer to set the objective lens to the correct focal length.
Peace and God Bless!

Thanks for the tip, Austin! I'm glad I don't have to try to take the imager chip apart . . . and then find out it has nothing to do with it.

Hi man, and thanks for that information, very useful.

I have one question, I got this model of cam, but this has not a cable (not usb plug, not wires), all rest is in good state (apparently). I want to ask you, please, if can post the wires disposition inside the cam, at that 5-pin white connector, where color-wires join, like at your http://www.camerahacker.com/docs/IBM%20PC%20Camera%20Disasse . . . .

I hope connect an made-by-hand usb cable, but I can't see (sharply) the order of those color wires (I suposse counts four).

Get these old devices, and reviving it, is nice pastime XD. Thanks man for your attention.

I'll have to remember to dig it out again and shoot some photos of the wires.

Starting from the bottom of the picture you referenced, the pinout is red, white, green, and black. I'd expect the larger black wire is a chassis ground.

I found this page as I was searching for a datasheet for the Xirlink processor. I'd like to use this or some other web cam with micro processor.

racso, please read the last paragraph in the article. It identifies the location of the IR/UV filter.
