SD Card I/O Device Error

is there a way to format SD card when it reads I/O Device Error - in that no pics/ files are deleted, or should I just try another computer to locate and use these? Really don't want to format the disk nor tamper with it if possible... Thanks in advance

I am in a state of panic. I have tried everything I can think of and I'm at my wits end. I have an 8GB SD card that reads "card error" every where I put it. In the Fuji camera, was when I kept getting card read errors but could easily delete and retake the photo. Then I took a video and it read said "card read error". Now I can't do anything. I've tried the card in other cameras, "card error". I tried the card in a card reader, "H: is not accessible The request could not be performed because of an I/O device error"

Anything anyone could do would be greatly appreciated. We've had a 3 month old at our house for a few weeks to help out her mom and dad. We've been taking pictures for her them and they are ALL on this card.

Please help!!!!!

Buy another card so that you can continue to take photos for now.

With this corrupted 8 GB card, push the switch to the lock position so that no one can write to it any more. Put this card into every computer you can find. If any computer can read the card, copy the photos and video off it immediately. If you get lucky, you'll be able to recover the photos. If none of the computer can read it, then you are out of luck.

"In the Fuji camera, was when I kept getting card read errors but could easily delete and retake the photo."

Based on the symptom you wrote above, it means that the card was getting corrupted. By continue to use suck a card, you are asking for trouble. At the first sign of such a problem, copy the photo and video off it immediately. Then re-format the card. If the error comes back, then stop using the card as soon as possible and get a new one.
