Canon EOS D60 Error Codes

A Canon 75/300 mm USM lens that was working ok until the weekend suddenly came up with the error report Error 99 on my 10D & Error 45 on my D30 I had this problem before on the 10D with an older Sigma lens and was told that it would have to be re-chipped.
Does the Canon lens require a new chip?
